A recent survey showed that Volkswagen is the car of choice for Chinese consumers considering purchasing a vehicle.

VW is followed closely by German rival BMW and Buick. The study, conducted by Deutsche Borse AG, showed that VW was favoured by more than 20% of those surveyed, winning points on price and safety.

The research also showed that willingness to invest in a new vehicle was at its highest point so far in 2015.

The poll, which surveyed more than 1000 people, ranked Honda as the most desirable Japanese brand. The findings contrast an earlier, state-backed report that placed Hyundai Motor as the nation's top-ranked mass-market auto brand, ahead of VW and Buick.

Despite its apparent popularity, Volkswagen Group deliveries actually fell 5.7% year-on-year in April 2015 to 291,600 vehicles, as sales of its core VW brand continued to slide. Audi, Skoda and Porsche all saw growth (the latter by 46% but not enough to negate a 7.5% fall in VW-branded cars. Despite the fall, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers is still maintaining its estimate of 8% growth for the year.
