The two sides of Honda

Honda' standard Civic is matched with its Civic R concept in a clever piece of video marketing.

Using the strapline of "The OtheR Side" viewers of the YouTube video have the opportunity to see both vehicles in action at the same time.

The video uses the two cars - a standard Honda Civic, currently available in European showrooms, and a Type R Civic 'hot hatch' concept - playing out very different but simultaneous scenes, one by day and the other by night.  Viewers can switch between the two at any time during the three minute video, simply by pressing the R key on a PC keyboard, or an R button embedded in the video if a mobile device is being used.

The video is totally responsive, even advising viewers to rotate the screen if a tablet or smartphone is being held in landscape view.  Once finished, the viewer is offered the chance to register for advance information on the Type R or go straight to standard Civic details.

The Japanese carmaker is certainly not holding back on its ambitions when it comes to marketing, with its digital publication, Dream Magazine, comparing its most popular model - the Honda Jazz - to "Six small things that changed the world".

With little modestly, the magazine has linked the soon-to-be launched 2015 version of the Jazz with with several lofty inventions including:

  • The LEGO® brick which dates back to 1949
  • The GoPro camera which has revolutionised the documentation of people's lives and interests
  • The microchip which began life in 1959 and has changed how we control devices

Not holding back on its aspirations, Honda's comparison list also includes technology used by NASA on Mars, the world's hottest chilli pepper and Nobel prize-winning LED technology.
