Alibaba's popular TMall platform has released data on the top selling lubes for 2013
Tmall.com, a B2C website owned by Alibaba billionaire Jack Ma, has ranked the most popular lubes for last year. The report also looks at geographical distribution, service and consumer tastes.

Shell's Helix HX6 synthetic SN10W-40 was the most popular lubricant as of December last year, selling 1215 units from its official platform. Meanwhile, Great Wall's Justar J600 5W-30 ranked second-highest in December, selling over 500 units in the same period.
According to TMall, the use of key terms such as "official", "genuine" and "exclusive distributor" were key to attracting shoppers to the brands' flagship Tmall stores. The search terms reflect lingering anxiety surrounding counterfeit merchandise being sold online.
Consumers tended to purchase SN, SM synthetic oil grades and above, the report claimed, although this also varied depending on location and car make.
According to Tmall analysis, the most popular price range by sales was between 200-300 Yuan ($33-50 while 50-100 and 300+ Yuan took a relatively small share of overall sales. The authors of the report claimed that too high or too low prices affected consumers purchasing behaviour in much the same way.
Statistics also show that people in the south of China were more likely to order online than their northern counterparts.
