From December 2013, Tanzania will be launching technology to test its own lubricants and oil products rather than having them tested by the the Kenya Bureau of Standards in Nairobi.
The move has two significant benefits - a reduction in costs and the ability to ensure consistent quality through testing local products locally.
The Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) will be able to begin using the new technology early next year and follows a recent installation of equipment to test fuel without having to sent it to Mombasa in Kenya.
The role of the TBS is to provide a test service to lubes and fuel manufacturers and transporters who need to ensure the quality of oil products they are producing or using.
