At the Sixth Off-Highway Vehicles Summit in China, Shell Global Technology Service Manager for Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, Hao Jiandong, announced the company would be increasing collaboration with local manufacturers to deliver better service, fuel efficiency and cleaner products.

Hao claimed that "innovation and energy-saving solutions" would bring about changes needed to improve emissions in the largely diesel-driven sector. According to Hao, the Dutch major is seeking to change the perception of lubricants as simply a part requirement and highlight the potential energy-saving benefits of joint innovation.

Shell will seek to increase collaborations where lubricant considerations are integrated into the manufacturer's design process, in order to make noticeable changes to durability and efficiency.

The world's leading lubricants supplier will look to replicate European successes.  For example, in cooperating with Daimler, Shell has been able to increase fuel efficiency in the Mercedes-Benz Actros truck to 19L per 100km, earning it the impressive accolade of "Green Truck of the Year".

The challenge in China will be creating a low-viscosity engine oil that will also provide effective wear-resistance and durability. Even a 1% increase in efficiency across a whole off-highway fleet will realise a significant saving.
