New Code of Practice launched by ATIEL

Guidance for developers and marketers of engine lubricants has been updated by ATIEL.

ATIEL code of practiceThe European economic interest group issued its 19th Code of Practice which includes technical updates corresponding to the latest European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) engine lubricant specifications.

The latest specs and guidelines have been developed within the Association's European Oil Sequences 2012 regulations, which cover minimum performance levels required of service-fill engine lubricants.

The Code of Practice includes some new testing requirements which will affect the formulation and development of engine lubricants.

Amongst a number of changes to the Code of Practice, three key elements have been added:

  • the equivalency guidelines (known as 'grandfathering') for the test DV4TD to DV6C which will be applicable when this test becomes available.
  • a medium temperature dispersivity test for DV6C
  • Sequence VG4 will have a low temperatue sludge test.
