Microscopic parking

The shortest ever double yellow lines painted in London.

London's Westminster City Council is somewhat red-faced over double yellow lines which were painted between a taxi rank and car parking bays.  The lines, which mean no parking at any time, measure a fraction more than nine inches long and were painted by contractors working for the local authority in an area which is home to some of London's most famous landmarks.

Second in the race to the UK's shortest parking line record were those painted on a street in the university town of Cambridge earlier this year - measuring just 13 inches long.

Clearly, the challenge is being set for automotive manufacturers to see if they can come up with a driveable vehicle which can park on the lines and avoid a ticket from the local traffic warden.  Perhaps an even smaller version of the 'folding car' OATS recently reported might just solve the problem.
