Korea's SK exports at record levels


SK Group, including its chemical and lubes divisions, has finally become a "global export company" after hitting record overseas sales.

The South Korean energy giant revealed Q1 exports of a little more than $14bn, helped by booming petrochemical sales.  With export sales breaking the 70% mark for the first time, up 77% from its $8bn Q1 exports in 2011, the company has finally achieved its target of being an export-driven organisation.

Specifically, SK's Lubricants division's exports amounted to 87% of its total sales and overall, the company was boosted by its recent acquisition of semi-conductor manufacturer Hynix and is predictiing overall annual exports of around $55bn, another Group record, with the Q1 figures representing more than 10% of South Korea's total export revenues.
