The car, which was last produced in 1976 in West-Bromwich near Birmingham, England, will be redesigned and built by specialist car maker CPP. Manufacture of the new Interceptor will take place at another place of automotive history - the Browns Lane plant in Coventry, which formerly housed the Jaguar production line and headquarters and was recently acquired by CPP.
The new Jensen is a stylish take on the original, round-backed, hand-built sportscar which incorporated Italian styling. The Italian link has been maintained by CPP, which was appointed t build the new car by the Jensen brand owners Healey Sports Cars Switzerland, as the design will be handled through CPP's joint venture with the studio operating the famous Zagato brand.
The latest Interceptor will built on an all-new aluminium chassis with a hand-crafted aluminium body. Production is set to begin at the end of 2012 with the first cars on the road in early 2014.
The original Jensen became a head-turning, iconic GT-type sports car in the UK and around the world. British Formula One World Champion, Jensen Button, takes his name from the car thanks to his father's admiration for the brand.
