Indian company to assemble BMW engines

Force Motors will assemble BMW engines in India.

The company, which already assembles Mercedes-Benz engines, will set up a new plant at Chengalpet in Tamil Nadu with an investment of Rs 100crore ($16.7m).

The plant is expected to be operational by early 2015 and will assemble and test passenger car engines and other aggregates for BMW.

Its location close to BMW's vehicle assembly facility could have an impact on the overall price of vehicles because a reduced duty is applied when a vehicle is fully assembled locally - known as CKD (completely knock-down).
