The oil giant's research and engineering teams will be replicating operational conditions for marine lubricants allowing it to meet different conditions amid complex and increasingly stringent industry regulations.
The flexibility of the engine allows it to operate using various fuel types, in turn providing scientific data for the formulation of high and low base number lubes.
The company has stated that the new test engine will help to "reshape the marine fuels landscape and is likely to boost demand for LNG and compliant low-sulfur fuel options."
