Chinese lubes gain US approvals

In a bid to promote the authenticity and efficacy of their products, Chinese firms are seeking Western certifications

Domestic independents Kunlun Lubricants and Yihon Lubricants have received certification from foreign companies. Kunlun earned itself a place on General Electric’s list of suppliers after receiving a high-end market certification, while Yihon is now an approved supplier for Parker Hannifin.

Kunlun, a subsidiary of Chinese oil giant CNPC, has gained approval to supply three products to the US energy concern, marking a significant milestone in its drive to supply high-end lubricants on a global scale.

The two companies first signed a strategic co-operation agreement in 2014. After receiving approval, Kunlun will now supply long-life turbine oil, extreme pressure long-life turbine oil and extreme pressure combined cycle oil to GE.

Meanwhile, the little-known independent, Yihon Lubricants, has passed the US Nielsen HF-0, HF-1 and HF-2 series of tests. The company has become a DENISON approved fluid, a definitive benchmark for hydraulic fluids, from Parker Hannfin France SAS.

The two certifications show Chinese firms’ increasing desire to trade outside of domestic markets and bear the same hallmarks of quality as do their international counterparts at home.
