At the tender age of 14, Guan Tianlang certainly has a bright career in golf ahead of him. The young amateur finished the US Masters with a total score of 12 over par at Augusta, winning him the prestigious Silver Cup for the highest placed amateur, an award once held by Tiger Woods.

The Guangzhou-born golfer’s score of three-over par 75 shocked sports professionals worldwide, including Gary Player, who described the performance as “the second best I have ever seen [after Tiger Woods].” Guan has a 10 year head-start to beat Woods who, at the age of 24, became the youngest player ever to win a Grandslam tournament.

His youth did not grant Tinalang special treatment and he was handed a one-stroke penalty for taking too long, much to the dismay of seasoned golfer Graeme McDowell, who believed he was “made an example of.”

After the excitement, the young prodigy has returned home to continue his studies and practice his drive. On the whole, says Guan, “I think I did a pretty good job.”
