China produces 50bn tons of rain a year


A report reveals the full extent of China's meteorological control last month.

The data, was submitted to the bi-monthly meeting of the Standing Committee of the People's National Congress.

It revealed that even though China produces over 50bn tons of artificial rain annually, more intervention is needed to address natural disasters in drought-affected areas.

In all, 2,266 Chinese counties, covering an area of over 5m square metres (about half of China's land mass used artificial weather modification to control meteorological events in 2012.

The State Council has long promoted weather initiatives to tackle serious agricultural problems across China's geographically diverse landscape.

The State Council has also commissioned a total of seven meteorological satellites to monitor geo-systems, although the report calls for more to be done to accurately predict the nation's weather.
