Castrol Marine is set to launch a new cylinder oil to address cold corrosion.
The company has developed Cyltech CL 100 in response to corrosion issues resulting from modern long stroke engines running on higher sulphur content fuels at part load.
Cold corrosion happens when mid-range BN cylinder oils are used for slow steaming. The most effective solution is generally accepted as choosing a higher BN lubricant; an option supported by MAN Diesel & Turbo and W?rtsil?.
Castrol claims their Cyltech technology offers significant reduction in wear, helped by new surface acting agents added to the oil which gives improved protection to cylinder liner surfaces.
