Castrol goes bio

Castrol has launched a new industrial biolube range.

Designed for a range of sectors, Castrol Industrial's North American division has introduced Performance Biolubes to its product range.  The portfolio includes lubes and metalworking fluids  for the aviation, manufacturing, marine and energy markets.

According to Castrol, research on the biolube products began more than 20 years ago at the University of Northern Iowa.  Now, the finished product is about to reach wholesaler shelves with lubes based on plant-based oils without chlorine or secondary amines and is in line the with the company's stated aim of developing environmentally responsible products in the industrial sector.

Amongst the range is a NT 1000 - a bio-based coolant fro grinding; NuCut Ultra Life which is described as a low viscosity cutting oil and a machine tool 'slideway' lubricant Smartway 68.  Other products include wind turbine lubes and spindle oil.

Although initially only available in North America, Castrol plans a global roll-out of Performance Biolubes "in the future".
