Chinese automaker will collaborate with a research institute on auto-pilot technology
BYD Co, famous for its innovations in the EV segment, has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Singaporean Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R) to develop driverless car technology.
The two parties will establish a joint research laboratory that will begin developing driverless technology for the next generation of electric cars.
Far from just controlling the gas pedal, the new technology will cover all aspects of driving, including steering, braking, handling, GPS and monitoring the drive-style based on road conditions and traffic.
The I2R is one of Singapore's largest research institutions and is already undertaking research in intelligence, communication, media and other systems.
