TVR is designing a new sports car with Gordon Murray and Cosworth.
The UK-founded car brand will return to the sportscar market with a new two-seater using world-renowned designer Gordon Murray's iStream® technology to build a composite, ground-effect aero chassis and body package.
According to Gordon Murray Design, the iStream® assembly process is unique:
- It combines lightweight Formula One technology and low-carbon propulsion
- Safety standards exceed current Euro NCAP passenger and pedestrian impact regulations
- An iStream®vehicle delivers a 40% reduction in CO2 emissions over its entire lifecycle compared to its traditional rivals
- Unprecedented manufacturing flexibility allows the manufacturing plant to be 20% of the size of a conventional factory, reducing capital investment.
The new UK-built car will feature TVR's traditional front engine layout, with rear wheel drive and a manual transmission. Power will come from a normally aspirated, dry-sumped, V8-engine, developed and engineered by Cosworth.
Production will begin in 2017, with TVR set to launch at least four new models over the next ten years.
As OATS recently reported, Gordon Murray's influence on the automotive industry is far from simply creating fast cars. His recent collaboration with Shell and Osamu Goto will lead to production of the Project M city car.
