Nearly a quarter of all online video views linked to iPhones and iPads, according to research.
Adobe's study has revealed that in Q1 2015, 62% of authentications to view video came from Apple devices - possibly due to Apple's iPhone 6 having a a larger, more video-friendly screen. 48% of log-ins came from the iPad and the iPhone together, up 2% on Q4 2014.
Many people watch TV programs, particularly cable network broadcasts, via the internet - either live or on-demand - as part of their subscription to a service, also known as 'TV Everywhere'. Cable and satellite companies authenticate these paid subscribers wherever they are watching.
Streaming video to mobile devices is a competitive market which includes Apple, Google, Microsoft and many others. There has been a growth in on-demand TV, with more people watching TV Everywhere on what's known as 'over-the-top' devices. These include Apple TV, Roku and Google’s Chromecast, as well as game consoles like the Xbox. Overall, Apple-based devices continue to dominate authentications, ahead of Android, while just 7% watch video via their PCs.
Advertisers are increasingly aware that that more people are watching on phones, tablets and over-the-top devices than before. Apparently, Wednesday nights have become the most popular night for 'TV Everywhere' viewing, with Fridays set aside for 'binge watching'.
