Angry Birds hit China

A new theme park based on a popular Finnish mobile device game opens in China.

A soft opening for the newly-build Angry Birds theme park took place in Haining, Zhejiang Province, much to the delight of young Chinese fans.

The park, based on the game created by Rovio Entertainment, comes complete with themed climbing structures, slingshots in the shape of seats and plenty of bird merchandise outlets.

The popular mobile and tablet game asks players to launch cartoon birds at snoozing pigs, although it is unclear whether the new park will contain a real-life representation of the oversized catapult.

Demand for a genuine theme park was confirmed after a Changsha park added an Angry Birds section as part of its month-long stress-reducing festival. The section came complete with a giant slingshot and precarious pigpen.

Finland, Malaysia, US, Abu Dhabi and the UK have all jumped on the bandwagon with Angry Bird theme park plans of their own.
