Afton Chemical has announced it's ready to launch a new passenger car motor oil (PCMO) additive that will meet both the new GF-5 and Dexos1™ standards.
The oil additive, which has yet to be given a brand name publically, is among the first to be released ahead of the new GF-5 specifications which come into force in October this year. According to Afton, the additive has also been approved by GM for the manufacture or Dexos1 engine oils without any modification to the product.
Afton claims that the additive exceeds both specifications in certain tests - in particular the Sequence IIIG oil robustness test, and in the Opel RNT Test on camshaft wear.
Afton's engine oils marketing manager, Ian Atherton, stated: "We knew that GF-5 and Dexos1 would present challenges, so it’s especially gratifying to not only meet those specifications, but also exceed them in a number of measures. We’re happy to be able to give our customers what they need before they need it."
