Total builds largest Asian lubes plant

Total's new Singapore lubes plant will produce 310,000 tonnes per year.

In a bid to double volumes in Asia over the next decade, the Tuas plant will consolidate production in the country's western industrial region to save on operational costs.

By the end of the year the new plant will replace two existing sites with a total capacity of 180,000tpy in Singapore.  Total's 5% global market share makes it one of the top five suppliers worldwide although the growth of lube oil demand has slowed.

"We think that the (lubricant) oil demand will grow at 0.6-0.7% for the next 10 years ... which is less than what we anticipated before," Philippe Charleux, vice president of Total's global lubricants business said, adding the company had previously expected growth to be in the region of 2%.
