Two new hydraulic fluids are headed for the shelves with product development from Total and Shell.
The French oil major is set to put DYNAVIS® Technology to work in its new Equivis FE hydraulic brand, which will see global distribution from October this year. According to the producer of DYNAVIS®, Evonik Oil Additives, a series of fuel consumption field tests has proven the technology to reduce consumption by between 5% and 30% approximately.
The new product is aimed particularly at construction fleets using excavators and loaders, offering a wider temperature operating range than previous products and reducing seal wear. According to Evonik, the multi-grade DYNAVIS® Technology also helps maintain optimum power output of hydraulic pumps, even under sustained use.
Meanwhile Shell has announced the launch of a new zinc-free hydraulic fluid for the US market under its expanding Tellus brand. The new Tellus S3 M product offers an entirely zinc-free fluid with double the operating life of Shell's existing Tellus S product, according to the company.
Like the Total fluid, it is designed for operation at extreme temperatures, with a particular focus on manufacturing applications. In pump tests, the new Tellus fluid - which comes in ISO 22, 32,46, 68 and 100 grade form - apparently showed as much as 76% less pump wear. Because of it's zinc-free formula, Tellus S3 is also more environmentally safe in the event of a leak or spill.
