Royal Dutch Shell is planning a new fuel and lubricants business at Dubai's busy Jebel Ali Port.
The plan is to launch a marine fuels and lubricants business in 2011 using a large barge at the port itself. It is intended that the supply will be on a significant volume, business-to-business basis supplying large vessels for Shell customers under contract.
Although this particular venture is venture for Shell, the company views the marine sector as an important and growing market for its Middle East business.
The announcement comes just a month after Shell's Aviation division signed a deal to operate as a fuel supplier at Dubai's new Al Maktoum International Airport. Shell has already been supplying aviation fuels to Dubai's previous airport for the past 40 years.
