The Anglo-Dutch major has paved Lanzhou Airport expressway as part of a major redevelopment plan
After careful inspection from the Gansu Expressway Bureau, the new, 70km Lanzhou Airport expressway is now online. Shell was instrumental in supplying the bulk of the high-quality bitumen needed to pave the highway, which is part of China's $79.8bn infrastructure plan for the west China province.
The expressway is a small part of China's "one belt, one road" initative aimed at promoting trade between China and Central Asia. The initiative will require some $5 trillion of investment over the next five years, as well as tens of thousands of expressway and highway links to be built across the country.
Shell sourced the bitumen from its own plant in Singapore and is the only international oil company with a dedicated bitumen technical service team in the region. It also operates several bitumen solutions centres and a high quality polymer modified bitumen (PMB) line.
Shell Bitumen China GM Jian Pingshen sees China's northwest and southwest regions as particularly interesting areas for investment. "We are looking forward to supporting China's infrastructure boom with our high-quality products and attentive technical services," says Jian.
