Engineering consultancy Ricardo has entered a new partnership to develop fuel cell technology for electric vehicles.

The organisation has formed an alliance with UK-based Intelligent Energy to develop fuel cell power technology for electric vehicles. The non-exclusive partnership will provide design, engineering and implementation support for vehicle manufacturers.
Intelligent Energy has developed proprietary fuel cell platforms aimed at both the automotive and stationary power sectors as well as for use in consumer electronics and fits well with Ricardo's own activities in the hybrid and fuel cell electric vehicle arena. The relationship between the two companies is not new, however, the partnership provides specific focus for production-based projects.
Intelligent Energy has developed power technologies that are designed for high volume integration for mass market products which reduces the need for in-house development and engineering.
According to the company, they are: "increasingly asked to deploy our high efficiency, zero emission powertrains into vehicle and fleet trials, ahead of automotive market commercialisation."
