Volkswagen AG-owned Porsche will deliver a $2.2 million (13.4 million yuan) supercar to China next year in an effort to woo more Chinese customers. The luxury car marque is already taking orders for the 918 Spyder hybrid supercar, although Helmut Broeker, head of the company’s China operations, expects it’ll be a while before you see many of them on the road.
The German car company is also targeting the nation’s booming SUV market to build on the success of its popular Cayenne model, which accounts for around 65% of the its total deliveries in China. The Macan, a mid-size SUV, is smaller and sleeker than the Cayenne and is expected to begin selling in the second half of this year.
Broeker also announced plans to almost double the number of Porsche dealerships across the country from 49 in 2013 to 95 by the end of 2014.
