As part of the commemoration of 100 years of fluid development, the oil giant has announced what claims to be the world's first "digital fluid art programme". Entitled Fluid Art Movement, the aim is for artists to turn fluids into art in whatever form the wish.
A statement from Petronal Lubricants International (PLI) said: "We invite participation from around the world to join our Fluid Art Movement in appreciation of fluids. Inject them with colours, splash them onto canvas and show them off as art pieces to be shared with the world."
Early entries include images from F1 drivers Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg, both of whom drive Petronas-sponsored cars.
The aim of the competition is also to raise public awareness of fluids and their use. The idea came from PLI whih has been instrumental in streamlining Petronas' gobal lubes and function fluids operations after it was formed from FL Selenia, which Petronas acquired in 2007. Selenia began life as a department of Italian automaker, Fiat, 100 years ago.
The winners of the competition will be decided by public vote using social media such as Facebook, Flickr and Pinterest. Participants can register from any of the countries where Petronas has a presence, including Italy, Germany, UK, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brazil, South Africa and Japan. First prize is an all-expenses-paid trip to the inaugural Grand Prix of America in New York next year.
Details of the competition, which is open until 31 December 2012, can be found on the competition website www.fluidartmovement.com.
