Gelita has found a new raw material for oil-free cooling lubricants.
The company - one of the world's leading suppliers of gelatin and collagen-based products - together with an automotive parts supplier and a local industrial college, has developed the liquid protein concentrate NOVOTEC® CL 800.
Completely free from allergens and toxic substances, the proteins allow metal-processing to be carried out smoothly without any oil residues, avoiding the need for intensive cleaning.
German-based Gelita has undertaken rigorous testing of the proteins, including 15-month field trials, against other comparative 'recipes'. Cooling lubricant producers are also testing the new protein solution in their own products. As well as the benefits of reduced cleaning requirements of processing tools, shavings generated from machining processes can be more easily recycled because of the lack of oil in the residual waste.
