The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has reported that no "tainted seafood" has entered the US fish market since the Deepwater Horizon explosion.
The NOAA declared the results "unequivocal" and stated that any oil traces in more than 40 marine species was 100-1,000 times below the "level of concern" and would require an individual to eat extreme amounts of seafood to even reach that level.
Thousands of samples have been taken from a wide range of marine species around the five Gulf States and have shown to have suffered no effects from the oil spill. Even fish caught at the Macondo well head have only been found to contain very low levels of dispersant chemicals.
The confidence of the scientists, from agencies including the FDA and EPA, is not shared by all the Gulf communities, however. Despite a recent BP video, which has a Louisiana shrimper stating that catches are returning, a BBC report showed evidence to the contrary amongst the oyster fisheries.
