The Chevron-backed record attempt to drive from London to Cape Town smashed the old time by almost two days.

As reported earlier this month, a Land Rover Discovery 2, driven Mac and Steve Mackenney and Chris Rawlings, left London to break a 47 year-old record to drive to Cape Town in South Africa.
The team arrived at their final destination 11 days, 14 hours and 11 minutes later - taking 1 day, 18 hours and 37 minutes off the previous record set by Eric Jackson driving a Ford Cortina GT in 1963.
Backed by Chevron, with the vehicle using Havoline lubricants and Caltex fuels, the team faced challenges of rough terrain, tough navigation and plenty of paperwork and cross-border diplomacy. However, the vehicle ran faultlessly, requiring only one planned oil change - appropriately in the Middle East.
