When Canadian Tire wanted to test is Motomaster Eliminator Battery in extreme conditions, a moving ice sculpture seemed the ideal way to it.
With the battery previously frozen to -40 degrees Celsius, it was fitted to a truck made of ice by specialists Ice Culture.
Weighing-in at 15,000 pounds, of which 11,000 pounds was crystal clear ice, the truck was built on a rigid chassis to make its one-off return journey through the local town of Hensall.
The vehicle's engine was given maximum coolant to prevent the engine heat melting the ice, but the project was helped by the freezing outdoor conditions. Once the vehicle had been carved into shape, the engine was fired-up, starting first time despite the frozen battery.
The one mile (1.6km) drive brought the local townsfolk onto the streets to cheer the project on and the truck returned safely to the Canadian Tire depot before slowly and gracefully melting to leave just the chassis, engine and, of course, the battery.
