Hydrodec's is expanding its rerefinery in Canton, Ohio thanks to a new partnership agreement.
The deal sees a collaborative agreement between transformer oil rerefiner Hydrodec and transformer recovery firm G&S Technologies Group.
With work on the engineering design, permits and a contracting strategy already underway, the expanded capacity is expected to be commissioned in the summer of 2014, as part of a scaling up of Hydrotec's North American operations.
The following year could see possible development of two further plants in the US, depending on success and analysis of the first operation. This year a pilot plant will start production, with a focus on rerefining used paraffinic base stocks and potentially producing API Group II and III base oils.
Hydrodec CEO Ian Smale commented: “We are now engaged in a broad testing program defining the limits of the announced proof of concept and building the knowledge required to design a pilot phase.”
Hydrodec began commercial production at the Canton rerefinery in 2008 - the second unit after opening a plant in Young, Australia, two years previously. The 22,000 square foot Canton site can currently recycle up to eight million gallons of used transformer oil per year.
