ExxonMobil plans to upgrade fuel oil production at its Slagen refinery.
A new processing unit will be built at the Norwegian site to enable production of high quality vacuum gas oil which can be used to create finished products such as diesel.

Despite low margins and losses in the industry in Europe, the company is responding to increasing demand for energy by investing in the new residual flash tower to improve the overall crude distillation process and the resulting product yield.
Opened in 1961, the Slagen refinery now has an annual processing capacity of six million tons of crude oil and is 25% more efficient than it was in 1990, the oil giant began implementing a programme of energy-saving measures.
