The Festival, which now attracts tens of thousands of motorsport fans from around the world to watch iconic vehicles of all ages race and rally their way up the hill of the Goodwood driveway, now includes an annual centrepiece sculpture.
This year, to celebrate the 50th Birthday of Jaguar's classic E-Type, world-famous sculptor, Gerry Judah, created the ultimate homage to the car: a 150 tonne E-type made from iron pipes.
Taking four months to plan and 10 days for bridge-building specialists to install, the 28 metre sculpture weighed as much as 122 of the original E-types. The steel for the sculpture was donated by Jaguar's sister company, Tata Steel.
The massive 'car' was placed in front of Goodwood House, home to Lord March who hosts the Festival of Speed and other classic motorsport events around his estate, which includes the famous racing circuit that once ran the British Grand Prix, every year.
Fastest car up the 1.16 mile hillclimb this year was Dan Collins' Lotus 88B 'twin chassis' Formula 1 car with a time of 48.52s, narrowly beating former British Rally Champion, James Milner's 48.99s in his customer-built Toyota Celica hillclimb car.
