Currently, China Mobile has over 200m 4G users - after losing market share to competitors in 3G - and is planning a rapid expansion in 2016 that will see it more than double market share.
The Chinese telecoms giant is adding more than 300,000 new base stations in 2016 to cater to an increasingly mobile-savvy population.
It also plans to shift users currently using 3G to 4G in a bid to achieve its ambitious target.
According to its own accounts, 4G users generate around 1.5 times the average revenue per user than regular telecoms customers. China Mobile already has some 1m base stations sited across China.
The Ministry of Industry and Information puts the nationwide number of 4G users at just 270m, compared to over 900m mobile web users who China Mobile hopes to bring up to 4G speed. Being able to stream media, shop and communicate with others quickly and efficiently on 4G will appeal to many of China's younger mobile web users.
