Bowie is back!

On his 66th birthday, David Bowie has released his first single and video in ten years.

Without any warning, after ten years of silence in the music world, pop and fashion icon David Bowie has released a new single as a internet download.  Called "Where are we now?", the track was recorded in New York and produced by Tony Visconti who has collaborated on many of Bowie's previous albums.  A new album, The Next Day, is set to follow in March.

The release of "Where Are We Now?" took the internet by storm and quickly became the top trending topic on social media sites. Accompanied by a typically unusual and thought-provoking video, the track is a simple, somewhat sad refrain with Bowie singing over a piano backing.

The lyrics and vidoeo images contain references to Berlin - a city where Bowie and Visconti produced a critically-acclaimed trilogy of albums - Low, Heroes and Lodgers - in the 1970s. Bowie's voice has noticeably matured but retains its unique sound.

Bowie has not performed live since 2006 and has rarely been seen in public since then.
