12 lubes brands make Guangzhou blacklist

Provincial bureaus are making a conscious effort to crack down on substandard products

Guangzhou’s Bureau of Industry and Commerce has released a comprehensive list of car lubricants companies that failed to meet local standards in the second half of 2013. The rankings are designed to increase consumer awareness about substandard products on the market.

Among the twelve brands mentioned were Shark Power Lubricants, FAW King brand lubes, Ou’eri and other brands.

According to the inspection, many of the products tested failed to meet the necessary (GB/T 28863-2012) standard stated on the products’ labels.

In most cases, the oils did not match the stated viscosity, temperature performance range, high-temp viscosity, anti-corrosion, sulphur and moisture content. Overall the lubes were judged on 12 separate criteria.

The bureau examined 46 different products from 31 companies and found that 34 products were not compliant with the stated standards, with 12 being illegally below specification. One of the most common faults of the lubricants products was viscosity performance in low temperatures.
