View from the Bridge - Bulletin 119 (Dec 10)

REACh implementation is finally upon us as the 30th November deadline has passed. For anyone marketing and selling lubricants in the EU this has had, and will continue to have, a widespread impact.

Just as the larger companies are trimming product ranges to reduce variety marketing and production costs, the smaller companies are rationalising their product ranges to avoid the costs of compliance.

When combined with the product range changes brought about by ACEA 2008, the pressure on oil companies’ documentation systems has rarely been heavier. Changes to Technical Data Sheets as well as MSDS, particularly in a climate of reduced technical staff numbers and higher compliance risks for senior management, means having reliable systems requiring the minimal amount of input becomes ever more important

All of this is begs the questions of senior management: “What Documentation?” and “How do we do it?”; questions that have previously has stayed ‘below the radar’ at that level, being viewed as functional activities that the technical departments will resolve.

OATS have been considering this issue for some time and TEMDOX TDS Manager is the first stage of addressing the documentation challenge. TEMDOX TDS allows for publishing your TDS directly to a web solution, with minimal resources required to update company-side documentation in a single process. If you would like to discuss how OATS can help streamline your documentation, then contact us on +44 (0)1793 616138 or via bulletin@oats.co.uk.

This will be the last bulletin before 2011. With the trials of 2010 behind us, next month we welcome another year’s challenges. Let us hope that the progress out of recession in the Western economies will be complemented by continued growth in BRIC and other Asian markets.

In January we will consider the way forward in 2011. Over the past year we have received positive feedback, advice and input regarding the OATS Bulletin from readers around the world. We are always happy to receive this so, as always, if you would like to comment on contribute, please contact us at bulletin@oats.co.uk.

In the meantime everyone at OATS would like to wish all our customers, supporters and advocates a good break and a prosperous New Year.
